Community Alliance Network (CAN) is the prevention arm of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence - Orange County (NCADD-OC) and is dedicated to creating and implementing prevention strategies that denormalize the use of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD's). CAN is driven by a philosophy that supports the creation and implementation of community-owned, multi-faceted strategies that increase local capacity to promote community change in relation to alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues. CAN recognizes that behaviors and policies are best altered when the community itself is involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation stages of any successful ATOD prevention process. Therefore, the organization's philosophy draws upon concepts from several research-driven models in order to cultivate ""community-based"" rather than ""community-placed"" ATOD prevention activities and accomplishments. Complementing the overall philosophy of CAN is our mission:
To design and implement ATOD prevention strategies that empower Orange County residents to create healthier and safer communities.
CAN also acts as an educational outlet to the community and welcomes opportunities to collaborate with local agencies by providing services and materials, such as:
- Presentations and workshops
- Training and technical assistance
- Fee education and prevention material, including Red Ribbon
- Certified TIPS Trainers for Responsible Beverage Service/Merchant Education
